SKILLS ACQUISITION PROGRAM (SAP)

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR – Nic Taylor

SAP COORDINATOR – Colin Robbins

COACHING STAFF –

SENIOR – Jacob Calvert, Jakub Sklenar and Jakob Cole

JUNIOR – Keon Pavlides and Bilal Ait Maamar

Warriors SAP is a Football Federation Tasmania (FFT) endorsed skill acquisition phase and discovery phase football training program.

Two training sessions are offered each week (90 minute sessions) and training is structured in two 5 week blocks with a “games” week scheduled in between the two training blocks. The program runs in-line with Tasmanian School terms, there a four 10 week school terms annually.

The program provides excellent linkage and player football development pathways from the Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) into the male and female FFT State team programs and NTC (National Training Centre). The SAP program is the starting point for any junior player (8-12 years) who wish to head down the talented player pathway and maybe one day, play for the green and gold of Australia.

Olympia FC Warriors offers excellent male and female high performance programs, fielding teams in the National Premier Leagues Tasmania (NPL Tasmania) for males and the Southern Women's Championship along with the State-wide competition Women's Super League for females.

A specific junior goalkeeping training program is offered to those junior players (male and female) who display the drive and commitment to undertake this challenging position.

NPL YOUTH ACADEMY

HEAD COACH/SENIOR SQUAD COACH – Dale Itchins

NPL YOUTH ACADEMY COORDINATOR – Colin Robbins

JUNIOR SQUAD COACH – Robert Clarke

ASSISTANT COACHES – Michael Moschogianis and Jakub Sklenar

GOALKEEPER COACH – Colin Robbins

The OFCW NPL Youth Academy caters for male athletes between the ages of 12 – 18 years. The Academy is for players aspiring to play at the highest level possible and that want to take their game to the next level.

The Academy aims to prepare youth players for senior football by teaching them to apply the functional game skills in a team-centred environment. Through a game-related training approach players will develop their tactical awareness, perception and decision-making skills.

The Academy does not replace existing club team training/playing, it offers an extension to players over a 42 week period to train in a highly routine and disciplined professional football environment under the guidance of FFA accredited, highly knowledgeable and experienced coaches.

There is a clear emphasis on a possession-based philosophy with the aim to attempt to pass the ball through the units. Players will focus on learning to play as a team and develop an understanding of the team tasks during the “Main Moments” of a game (ball possession, ball possession opposition and transitioning), as well as the specific tasks that go with individual team positions.

Through the use of positioning games players will learn to always create options for the player on the ball through proper positioning, improve their decision-making by learning to choose the right options, increase their handling speed (less space and time forces quicker thinking and acting), improve their technique (passing and first touch) and learn communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal).

Specialised goalkeeper training will be offered to those players who display the drive and commitment to undertake this challenging position, training is delivered by an FFA accredited Goalkeeper coach and will cover game training and technical aspects of the specialised position.

The Academy has strong partnerships with Football Federation Tasmania technical staff, in relation to the talented player football development pathways - Under 13 and 14 State teams and the NTC (National Training Centre). These partnerships ensure Academy players are able to attend the Academy training sessions to compliment their FFT training commitments and that players do not have high workload demands which may result in injury or fatigue.

The Academy also offers a three day Development Trip towards the end of the training program (October) where players will partake in competitive matches and training sessions against stronger opponents than they would experience in Tasmania. The trip is also an opportunity for players to experience the disciplines of travelling interstate which is required by players as they move from the Academy into senior football at OFCW or beyond.
